ARCHITECTURAL WINDOW FILMS

SOLUTIONS TO IMPROVING AND PROTECTING
THE PERFORMANCE OF EXISTING GLASS

The Solar Gard Solar Control Window Films balance light transmission and heat rejection, helping to reduce energy consumption and improve both summer and winter comfort.

Saint-Gobain Solar Gard

Saint-Gobain Solar Gard has achieved an EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) certification from The International EPD System®, encompassing 92 architectural window film products, covering the architectural range of solar, and safety films, the range of Low-E films, films for both inside use and outside use (SENTINELTM) and for the decoration & design films.

Solar Gard Safety and Security films reduce the risk for damage and injuries in the case of breaking glass and give increased protection in case of impact or an explosion or in the case of an attempted intrusion.

EPD VERIFIED

The EPD is based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of the cradle[1]to-grave impacts of Solar Gard’s products following the relevant international standards (ISO 14044 and ISO 14025) and have been third-party verified against the Product Category Rules (PCR) under program operator The International EPD System®.

SOLAR & SAFETY FILM

REDUCING THE SOLAR ENERGY GAIN BY UP TO 82%

SOLAR CONTROL FILMS

Filmtek Data Solutions window film rejects up to 82% of solar energy, dramatically reducing heat gain through glass while allowing day lighting of interiors and reducing glare.

KEY TERMS FOR SOLAR ENERGY

Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC)

Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) refers to the amount of solar energy transmitted plus the amount that is absorbed and re-radiated inwards. This is represented as a number between 0 – 1. (G-Value)

Total Solar Energy Rejected (TSER)

Total Solar Energy Rejected (TSER) refers to the amount of solar energy reflected plus the amount that is absorbed and reradiated outwards. This is represented as a percentage (0 – 100) and is equal to (1 – SHGC)*100)

SAFETY & SECURITY WINDOW FILMS

Safety window films are transparent or tinted films that are applied to windows to enhance safety and security. FILMTEK Safety Window films are available in different thicknesses, ranging from 100 to 350 microns, with thicker films providing higher levels of protection.

They are commonly used in buildings, homes, schools, offices, and vehicles to improve overall safety and security.

Installation of safety window films is a straightforward process and can be done on various types of windows, including residential, commercial, and automotive windows.

They are typically optically clear or come in various tint options, allowing for customization while maintaining visibility.

ADVANTAGES

  • Made of strong and durable materials, such as polyester, and are designed to hold shattered glass together in the event of breakage
  • Help to prevent injuries from flying glass shards during accidents, natural disasters, or attempted break-ins.
  • Provide an additional layer of protection against break-ins, as they make it more difficult for intruders to penetrate the glass and gain entry.
  • Provide UV protection by blocking a significant portion of harmful UV rays, helping to reduce fading and damage to interior furnishings.
  • Cost-effective compared to other security measures, such as reinforced glass or security bars, making them a popular choice for enhancing window safety.

EMS 7030

Solar Gard® EM Shielding with EMS 7030

Electromagnetic & radio frequency shielding.

Electromagnetic & radio frequency shieldingElectromagnetic & radio frequency shielding

There are different ways to protect from electronic eavesdropping: either by securing the wireless signals (but then others can still view the network) or by trying to contain the wireless signals and prevent electronic signals to escape or to enter. The latter option is obviously a more thorough measure and give more security. To realize this one can create a full metal enclosure but that is aesthetically not appealing as it requires to integrate metal meshes in the glazed surfaces. The better way of containing wireless signals is to use RF Shielding glass or, in the case of renovation or upgrading to apply a Radio Frequency shielding film. Solar Gard EMS 7030 is such a film.

Solar Gard has been tested in accordance with standard ASTM D4935-10, measuring the effectiveness of the attenuation of electromagnetic waves between 40 MHz – 40 GHz: test samples are irradiated with a defined power flux density S1, the pervasive power flux density S2 is measured. The shielding attenuation is a nonsional measured variable in decibels(dB) adB = 10 • logS-dimennd calculated as follows:1 10 S 2 The measuring devices used are two Vector Network Analysers Rhode & Schwarz ZNB20 and ZNB40, with a measuring dynamics up to 140 dB. The antennas we use for ASTM D4935-10 are broadband TEM cells with radial polarization. A reduction of 10 dB corresponds to a 90% attenuation (reduction of the transmission); 40 dB corresponds to 99,99% reduction.

In addition to its shielding properties, EMS 7030 can also improve the performance of your existing glass. Due to its special composition of superb heat rejection properties combined with a high visible light transmission and a 99% UV rejection, the EMS 7030 window film keeps your building cooler and more comfortable whilst protecting your people and property.

The 8 mil safety version of EMS 7030 helps to drastically reduce the risk of injury due to shreds of glass in case of breaking glass, be it by impact or due to an explosion. Furthermore, EMS 7030 is virtually undetectable on your windows, providing an unaltered view.
